A Reason for Art

Sketching daily became easier after I learned to let go of my desire to be "good at drawing" and my fear of making mistakes. I was making carefree drawings again that I like to call "sketches." They're not preliminary drawing for more serious artwork. They are end products in themselves. No, actually, they're the means to my mental wellbeing. I think that's one of the main reasons why I make art. Another reason why I make art is it's my response to all the beauty around me--nature, my family, etc. If I don't do anything about all this stimuli, I would be overwhelmed by all the emotions they stir up in me. I guess, it would be right to say that my art is a reflection of how I experience my world and what I'm really trying to achieve with it is I'm trying to stay as honest or as truthful as possible to my experiences.

What is the why to your artmaking? Well, whatever reason you have for making art is good enough if it lets you create something that makes you happy. Keep creating!
